A flagship business centre managed by The NE Group and developed by Newark and Sherwood District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and East Midlands Development Agency (emda) has recently won a regional regeneration award.

Newark Beacon business innovation centre was one of three finalists in the ‘regeneration project’ category at the Nottingham Evening Post Commercial Property Awards 2008, fighting off the competition to secure the top honour.

Since The NE Group became the managers of the £3.4m project, which was officially opened by Dragon’s Den star entrepreneur Theo Paphitis, the building has enjoyed tremendous success and continues to go from strength to strength.  It is now 75% full and there is strong interest in the remaining space.  Over 120 people work in the Beacon.

Newark Beacon offers a complete on site support service that includes business support and advice, ICT solutions and broadband Internet access, ideal for helping businesses to grow and develop.  The centre has become home to, amongst others; training, software, website and energy saving businesses.

It was also developed as a building with ‘green’ credentials including a natural airflow system, water harvest system and biomass boilers.

Sarah Jones, Centre Manager said, “The Beacon has a great working environment, there are a range of business, many of whom work together making use of this invaluable onsite resource.  We have seen many businesses thrive here and enjoy the benefits of working within this regeneration project, so being nominated and then winning the award was fantastic news.”
