The NE Group - Business excellence in house

Case Studies

Framed Flyers

Chesterfield based Framed Flyers is a start-up business that was established in August 2004 to sell framed concert, theatre and opera flyers. Managing Director Ken Grundy had the idea of selling the framed flyers over the Internet, and he approached the Centre for Technology Excellence (CTE) for support in setting up a website.

The Support Package

Ken initially met with a CTE Adviser to discuss the various options available and looked at different types of websites including static catalogue and ecommerce sites. After reviewing the options Ken decided to opt for a static site with the facility for customers to email him with an enquiry and to show their interest in the products.

The next stage was to find a domain name for the website, the CTE offered Ken support on how to choose a suitable domain name and also how to register the name.

Once the domain name had been agreed and registered a CTE Adviser discussed with Ken ideas on the actual design of the site and looked at different ideas for the visual image of the site.

The website was designed using Microsoft FrontPage and when it had been completed, Microsoft FrontPage training was given to Ken by a CTE Adviser, which now allows him to update the site himself on a regular basis. Ken has also decided to attend a Brush Up Your Website workshop run by the CTE to enable him to develop his website further to result in maximum number of visitors to his site.

Outcome

Receiving support from the CTE has enabled Framed Flyers to set up a website that Ken can use and update himself. It has also ensured that his original objectives have been met in that he is able to use the Internet to promote his products and generate enquiries for his company.

Ken said: 'Without the help of the CTE staff I would not be able to update my site myself. Originally I was concerned about the cost of having to pay someone to do it, but as we have developed the site I've realised that what it enables me to do is meet my customers expectations.'
